Enabling licensees to self administer their licenses significantly reduces the license lifecycle and change management process. Hardware migration is the most common example of a license that needs to be re-assigned.
Vendors typically enable users to unassign a license through their own software’s UI. While this is a very convenient feature, it does not help much in case of not accessible software installations (e.g., due to hardware failure). Therefore, it is useful to have the ability to centrally administer your licenses, regardless of their physical installations.
As a vendor, you have two options to empower your end-customers with license self service functionality:
- Give them direct access to SLASCONE’s customer portal.
- Use the API to integrate the relevant functionality in your existing portal.
CUSTOMER ONBOARDING
The customer portal is technically the same portal used by the vendor, with the same authentication process. Granting access to a person (email address is necessary) for a specific customer, is done in the respective area of a customer’s properties. In the following example, a vendor portal user gives access to Chris Paul for the customer Factor GmbH.
An email-invitation is sent to Chris Paul with instructions of how to register.
BRANDING
In most cases, you want the Customer Portal to reflect your brand's CI. You can control several elements, such as colors, titles and the favicon of the portal in the administration area of the vendor portal.
SLASCONE CUSTOMER PORTAL
Chris logs in the SLASCONE (Customer) Portal, which provides him the following functionality:
- A dashboard with all relevant information about all licenses.
- The ability to unassign a token, in order to make it available again. This is a typical use case in the context of hardware-migration or an inactive user.
- Add, delete users (colleagues) as co-administrators.
Chris is now able to invite and manage his colleagues as well:
ACCESS TO MULTIPLE CUSTOMERS
Starting with SLASCONE 8.0, the same identity (email) can be the administrator of multiple customers.
CUSTOM PORTAL INTEGRATION
API
In case you want to integrate such functionality in an existing portal in which your customers already have access, you can use the customer_portal functions of the SLASCONE API.
AUTHENTICATION
It is recommended to use the Customerportal Key when authenticating from your custom portal. This key provides access to the customer_portal functions of the SLASCONE API only. The Customerportal Key can be found (as every authentication key) in the Info area of SLASCONE (role Global Admin required).
